We visited both by train on a day-trip from Florence two years ago, going to Pisa first, and then on to Lucca. Just a couple of hours in Pisa is enough to cover the Field of Miracles area (church, baptistry, tower, even the museum there), and then on to Lucca for a relaxing stroll through the walled city.
