WebEpidermis and periderm are protective tissue. Stele shows anomalous secondary growth by the production of phloem islands (interxylary phloem) within the secondary xylem. Stele also shows internal phloem or intraxylary phloem that is an anomalous structure. This internal phloem lies below the secondary xylem and at the peripheral margin of pith.
